The church strictly forbade all resurrections and inflated the price of healing by five times, until all citizens of the Tigris Kingdom cooperated with their mission to fill the Tears of Matteral.

They were to destroy all remaining clinics in the city. The people would riot upon hearing this news.

But their enemy was an undying hero, capable of wielding the most powerful spells known to humankind—Saint Sanctina.

With a sweep of her hand, she could slaughter thousands of ordinary people at once. If they managed to kill her, she would be resurrected every time. There was no way they would be able to push her back.

With enough time, she could annihilate the tens of thousands of people in the Tigris Kingdom if it came down it. There was nothing to gain from fighting this beast.

That left them with one option: bend to the church’s will and surrender to her rule.

With spite pinching and piercing their every word, the holy warriors explained this situation to the minister. He nodded with a look of pain but didn’t stand from his spot on the sofa.

“…I will consult with His Highness. Please go for today.”

“Fine. But remember: This is effective immediately.”

“I sure hope His Highness gets better before it’s too late.”

They hurled their irritation and displeasure at him without mercy, airing out their pent-up rage. The minister, they thought, deserved it.

“Well then, we await His Highness’s response,” Sanctina announced, her perpetual smile plastered on her face as she stood and left the meeting room.

And with that, Tigris Kingdom surrendered to the Goddess’s church and offered their loyal subjects and their magical power—or so they thought.

“…They’re not coming.”

It was already past noon, the day after their warning. Not a single royal messenger had visited the cathedral.

What’s more, there were no injured or ill patients in sight. They’d all stopped coming to the cathedral—totally dropped off, zip, zero, zilch.

Well, sure, they had put a sign outside yesterday, outlining the price increases and newly prohibited treatments, and they’d certainly expected to see a decrease in the number of visitors. But not like this. It was odd that there was no one here to see them at all.

On top of that, the cathedral was completely empty, save for a few zealous devotees.

In the prayer room, everyone was dumbfounded, shaking their heads and trying to make sense of the situation.

At that moment, one of the younger holy warriors came whizzing in. “W-we’ve got some trouble!”

“What happened? What’s gotten you so worked up?”

“Someone is healing people! In the city!”

“What?!”

The holy warriors’ faces stiffened in light of this news. Treating patients was the church’s specialty—and a major source of their income.

Even during normal circumstances, they wouldn’t allow someone to edge into their territory. And they’d just changed their policies to make their bratty king fold. If the city became overrun with unaffiliated healers, the people would start to realize they didn’t need the church in the first place.

“It can’t be someone acting under the king, can it?”

“No. I think it’s an ordinary citizen. No relation to the king.
